These are the December Update news:
- 00/12/11
- PS2: first, the good news. According to the newest compatibility
list of PSX titles on the PS2, Final Fantasy Anthology is almost
perfectly playable on Sony's new system. Now the bad news... that
"almost" is cause by Final Fantasy 5. Although the game is still
playable, when you try to save the game there is a glitch that causes
screen corruption. It is still possible to move the cursor and save
the game, but you won't be able to see anything useful on screen
while saving (which can be a pain). Anyway, this is the only PSX
RPG that has problems on the PS2 (so far...).
- Magi-Nation: Interactive Imagination, an american company that has
former members of Sega, Nintendo and Square in their staff, is planning
the release of a new RPG title for GBC in the first months of 2001.
Not much is known about the title, except that the battle mode will
be Pokemon-style, with the possibility of capturing and training monsters.
And this is why I'm NOT going to buy this title. It's time to rid
the world of Pokecrap and its relatives :).
- X-Box: Sinister Games has been developing one game for Microsoft's
new console... the word on the street is that we're talking about
a RPG, but nothing else is known.
- Shenmue: after seeing how Final Fantasy hitted the big screen, now
it's time for Dreamcast's most famous title to have a movie. According
to Sega members, this screenplay will feature scenes from the game and will
be recorded in English. If you wish to see a special preview, head for
Tokyo on the 20th of January :).
-
Cash Wars: remember that the
Lorien
MDN is still accepting members! If you decide to join this cool game,
be sure to look for us!
- 00/12/1
- Final Fantasy Movie: this computer-animated movie is almost
available at the movies! It has surprised many people with its
"amazing effects and interesting story" (quoting from a movie
reviewer), although it has no relation with any previous Final
Fantasy games.
- Grandia: Parallel Trippers is the name of the new episode in this
saga. This GBC title is based on the original Grandia (released for
Saturn and Playstation). Yuuhi, Mizuki and Shirou are trapped inside
a parallel world and must collect keys in order to return to their
own world. During their journey, they will find some characters from
the original title. The most important change in the game happened
with the battle system, which is now card-based instead of turn-based.
The lucky Japanese RPG fans will be able to buy this game on the 22nd
of December for around 45 USD.
- PS2: sometime ago I mentioned a problem in Sony's new system that involved
the corruption of its DVD drivers and the memory cards. Well, this problem
has been solved by a new PS2 model that has the drivers already built-in.
Unfortunately, this model won't carry a memory card. Instead, it has a
remote control and an infra-red receiver that connects to the mem-card slot.
It'll be released on the 8th of December and it'll cost 350 USD.
- Eternal Melody: Media Works is preparing the release of a special edition
of their Yuukyuu Gensoukyoku saga (also known as Eternal Melody). This pack
will consist of 5 already released titles: Yuukyuu Gensoukyoku, Yuukyuu Gensoukyoku
Second Album, Yuukyuu Gensoukyoku Ensemble, Yuukyuu Gensoukyoku Ensemble 2 and
Yuukyuu no Kobako. This pack, named Yuukyuu Gensoukuoku Perpetual Collection,
will be released on the 7th of December for Saturn. Yes, you heard it here,
you heard it right, you heard "Saturn" :). Sega's amazing system is still alive!
- Star Wars: LucasArts has opened the official Star Wars On-Line RPG homepage.
Located at
www.starwarsgalaxies.com,
this site contains three message boards and a FAQ and it's expected that Star
Wars fans will use it to express their ideas/oppinions on this upcoming RPG,
that should be available in late 2001.

Cash Wars: I'm still playing this on-line multiplayer strategy game...
